Instructions for planting and care
:
Absolutely all palm seeds have a very hard shell. Therefore, they are lightly sawn to help the shell open and release the sprout outside. Then the seeds are soaked in warm water (about 35 °C) for 3-4 days and sown.
Soil for sowing
You can use just leaf land for sowing or mix it with peat and sawdust. Such a three-component base will create a kind of heating (+25 ..+30 °C), which will have a positive effect on germination.
Seeding
It is best to use the usual time, which is used by all amateur flower growers-the end of winter. For this purpose, in pots, no more than 15 cm high:
holes are made to allow excess water to drain off;
place the drainage of crushed bricks or large pebbles;
pour the soil;
seal the seeds (the depth of the seal should not exceed 3 cm, and the distance between them is not less than 4 cm);
cover the top with a glass plate.
Since the temperature at which it is recommended to germinate seeds is quite high and is +28...+30 °C for tropical palms, and +22...+25 °C for subtropical ones, watering should be carried out daily. At best, the first seedling will hatch in a month. But this happens rarely and you have to wait for several months.
Transplanted seedlings are subject to the size of which reaches 10-15 cm in height. A mixture of sand and humus in a ratio of 1:3 is used as the soil for transplanting.
Palm tree care
Palm trees are heat-loving plants, so they need both heat and light, but without drafts and direct sunlight. Abundant watering is recommended in spring and summer. There should always be water on the tray. Spraying and wiping the leaves with a wet sponge should be carried out regularly.
In winter and in autumn, abundant watering is changed to moderate to give the palm a rest. The leaves are cut off only when the petiole dries. The pot for transplanting the plant, which is carried out every 4 years, should be deep, but not wide.
